Martin Luther King Jr Facts

Born January 15th 1929 in Atlanta Georgia, Son of Martin Luther king Sr and Alberta Williams Kings. Martin Luther King Sr and Jr originally had the name Michael King, after a trip to Germany in 1934 Martin Luther King Sr wanted the name change to honor the German Prostant Preacher Martin Luther, The middle child of Three, older sister Willie Christine King and younger brother Alfred Daniel King. In 1939 Martin Luther King Jr sang with his church choir at the Atlanta Premier of Gone With The Wind.

Martin Luther king Skipped the 9th and 12th Grade at Booker T. Washington high school Attending Morehouse College at age fifteen, king graduated college in 148 with a bachelor of sociology, enrolling in Crozers Theological Seminary graduating with a Bachelor if Divinity in 1951. In 1955 he commenced Doctorial Studies in systematic theology at the University of Boston.

He married in June of 1953 to Coretta Scott in her home town of heiberger Alabama, they had Four children Yolanda King, Martin Luther King III, Dexter Scott King and Bernice King. At Twenty Five he became the Baptist Minister of Dexter Avenue Baptist church in Montgomery Alabama.

Howard Thurman educator, theologian, and civil rights leader were an early influence on Kings Life. Thurman Missionary work had taken him abroad where he had meet with Ghandi. These two men were a great influence with there non violent civil right protests.

Inspired by Ghandi’s approach to freedom and Civil rights movement, King encouraged the African American population to end racial segregation thru non violent civil disobedience, in 1964 Martin Luther king became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

By the late 60’s Martin Luther King had refocused his efforts toward improving the standards of living for all American and ending the Vietnam War. Martin Luther King was assassinated on April 4th 1968 in Memphis Tennessee. In !977 Martin Luther King was posthumously awarded the Presidential medal of Freedom, in 1986 a national h in holiday was made in honour of Martin Luther King,   In 2004 Martin Luther King was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.

Martin Luther King Jr died one of the great civil rights leader of the twentieth century standing up for not only African American right but but all Americans. He will long be remembered for the freedoms he created and will never be forgotten by the American people and people throughout the world.
