History of War Categories

The weapons used in the war of 1812 were knives, swords, bayonets, pistols, muskets, rifles, cannons and to a lesser extent, crude bombs. Among these different kinds of weapons, muskets and rifles with bayonets were the most used and in fact, were considered as the weapons that won the battles between these two opposing armies. This is because most battles were frontal in nature with wide distances between sides that would naturally call for the use of muskets and rifles.

Wars were common in ancient Greece. However, the ancient Greek wars known much about today thanks to the writing of Homer and Herodotus and Thucydides and Arrian are the Trojan War (sometime in 1250 BC but it may be a made-up story), the Persian Wars (490-480 BC), the Peloponnesian War (441-404 BC) and the campaigns of Alexander the Great (331-323 BC).

Next to 911, Pearle Harbor may have been the most dramatic shaking of our nation's sense of security in our history.  While that attack eventually backfired on Japan because it mobilized the American people to defeat the axis powers, it did accomplish the goal of instilling a great deal of concern that Japan would be able to dominate the war effort and eventually defeat us because they were able to pull off such a stunning blow as bombing our navy while in port.

The advances of technology had a major impact on the weapons deployed in World War I (1914 – 1918). It saw the earliest development and applications of new forms of weapons in aviation, navy and chemical warfare. World War I also saw the first widespread deployment machine guns, artillery and the introduction of the lumbering armored tank.

When discussions come up about military operations overseas, if you hear that they are sending in the "special forces", you know what that means.  While special forces operate with some degree of secrecy, their reputation as being the force that can go into an unwinnable situation and win it is legendary.

In a Summary of Vietnam war between communist North Vietnam and capitalist South Vietnam which commenced in 1964 and concluded in 1975. It was fought in southern Vietnam and bordering areas of Cambodia, Laos and in the bombing of North Vietnam. The capitalist South Vietnam forces were assisted by troops from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea. At the height of the war in 1969 this force comprised 800,000+ troops.

A lot of peculiar things happen during wartime.  One such story is of a man by the name of Juan Pujol Garcia who wanted so badly to become a British double agent that he faked it.  What makes his story so compelling is he was so good at faking his espionage abilities that he became a very real double agent who made a tremendous impact for the Allied side during the D-Day invasion.

There is no question that when we think about beach landings as part of a military strategy, the battles that occurred on D-Day come to mind first.  But because World War II was in every way a global conflict, the need to train special units that were skilled in taking a battle to the enemy with a beach offensive was necessary for all Allied powers.  D-Day did point out that such operations were always tremendously risky and often resulted in a high level of casualties. 

In the history of ground war strategies and the power of incredible skill, strength and courage against an overwhelming force, the legend of the 300 Spartans who held the vast Persian army in check in the pass called Thermopylae is such an amazing story that to this day we repeat it with awe.  Even in the last year, a movie about the battle of Thermopylae came out which only rekindled the interest in this battle and in the ground war they found to defend the Greeks.

The evolution of the Tank commenced during WWI, The name tank even as a weapon of war was unusual in its creation, at first so secretive was the new fighting vehicle that these’s  building them  in England were told they were building water carriers to bring water to the front line troops, Not silly these men new they were the strangest water carriers even to be built hence the nickname and eventual name Tank came about. Given  by the men who built these  mysterious new water carriers.
